Description
The Pioneer VM-80 is the standout model of the studio monitor range from Pioneer, the renowned Japanese brand. Beyond its distinctive design, the VM-80 is highly regarded for the flat sound that defines the VM-series: clear and true to life. The VM-80 is the perfect answer for seasoned and aspiring producers and DJs alike.
Pioneer VM-80 design
The Pioneer VM-80 DJ studio monitor has a modern look, with the whole cabinet finished in a sleek black powder coat that feels understated, simple and refined. Gently rounded corners and edges make it look softer and more eye-catching.
The Pioneer VM-80 is fairly compact, measuring 400 x 276 x 325 (mm) and weighing 9.7 kg per speaker. You can place it and set up your studio simply and quickly without taking up much space, and moving the speakers takes little effort.
High-grade materials
The Pioneer VM-80's construction is carefully engineered to get the best possible sound while staying durable in any situation. The cabinet is made from selected MDF and covered in industrial vinyl, making it sturdy and impact-resistant.
The rounded edges and the 4 mm thick rigid aluminium front baffle are designed to cancel resonance and reduce vibration in the VM-series monitors, keeping the sound clear and clean even at high volume. They also give the speakers a sleek, modern look that fits a professional studio.
A bass reflex port on the back keeps the sound balanced and clear and limits breakup or distortion at low frequencies, improving overall sound quality.
Flat, uncoloured sound
The Pioneer VM-80 inherits everything that makes the VM-series great: clear, pure and true-to-life sound with a flat response, so the speaker performs well in any studio. The acoustic design consists of a 203 mm woofer and a 25.4 mm tweeter on the front of the speaker.
In addition, Pioneer DJ's Vortex bass technology gets the tightest possible bass response from the bass port, for accurate, solid and impressively deep low end that reaches down to 34 Hz.
Aramid fibre cone drivers
Building on improvements made in the S-DJX series, Pioneer uses a woofer cone made of Aramid fibre to further support the accuracy and sound characteristics of the studio monitor. Aramid fibre is very stiff and light, so the cone responds quickly to vibrations and reproduces the chosen frequencies accurately. The VM-80 can project sound across the room and fill any space so listeners feel fully immersed.
Flat frequency response
Active studio monitors often have one drawback: the sound can sometimes become coloured in use, which takes away the natural sound of the music. With the VM-80 you can monitor with flat voicing and hear the track exactly as it is, for the most faithful experience.
When you need some extra EQ adjustment, handy DSP controls for Low and High settings on the back are ready to enhance your sound with impressive results.
Modern circuit design
The Pioneer VM-80 has a built-in Class D amplifier with 96 kHz sampling DSP for wide-bandwidth reproduction, making sure every sound comes through as it was made and that each speaker can be tuned perfectly to fill any room.
Total power is 120 W: 90 W for the woofer and 30 W for the tweeter, for true-to-life, powerful sound across a 34 Hz – 36 kHz frequency response that serves both listening and music production.
Responsive connectivity
The Pioneer VM-80 studio monitor has one XLR input and one RCA input on the back for connecting DJ gear and music production equipment. The gold-plated connectors keep the signal quick and complete, and resist oxidation for long-lasting durability.
