Description
The Pioneer VM-70 is an active studio monitor with Class D amplification and built-in DSP sampling at up to 96 kHz. Its Aramid bass driver delivers true, uncoloured sound with a notably punchier, tighter low end, perfectly meeting the needs of DJs and music production in professional studios.
Modern design, signature of the VM-series
The Pioneer VM-70 inherits not only the technology and sound of the VM-series studio monitors but also their look. With the signature hexagonal aluminium front surrounding the 2 drivers, a smooth glossy black finish and gently rounded edges, it looks both modern and striking.
The VM-70 has a compact upright rectangular cabinet measuring 340 x 229 x 312 mm and weighs only 7.7 kg, so you can place the speakers and set up your studio easily without taking up much space.
Cabinet construction that improves sound quality
The Pioneer VM-70 cabinet is made from high-grade MDF and finished with an industrial vinyl coating, making it sturdy, impact- and scratch-resistant and durable in any situation. It also gives the speaker a sleek, modern look that suits a professional studio.
The front is a rigid 4 mm aluminium baffle, specially designed for the VM-series to reduce vibration in the monitors. The rounded edges also significantly reduce noise generated while the speaker is working, keeping the sound clear and clean even at high volume.
At the back there is a bass reflex port that keeps the sound balanced and clear, reduces breakup and distortion at low frequencies and so improves sound quality.
Pioneer VM-70: outstanding flat, uncoloured sound
Music production calls for accurate, natural and powerful sound, and the VM-70 delivers all of that thanks to its sophisticated modern circuitry and high-tech drivers. You hear clearer, cleaner sound with lower distortion and a punchier, tighter low end, for an excellent experience in both DJing and music production.
Aramid woofer and Vortex bass technology
The Pioneer VM-70 bass driver uses an improved Aramid fibre cone that is 30% lighter than a conventional cone. It delivers surprisingly strong impact, giving you a great sense of the layers of sound and a tighter bass, while the driver is also more durable.
Vortex bass keeps the low end tighter and more comfortable, with remarkably controlled vibration, completely eliminating unwanted resonance. Meanwhile, the ribs in the bass reflex port let air flow freely out of the speaker for pure sound.
Flared tweeter with a constant-directivity horn
The VM-70 studio monitor reproduces the mids and highs well thanks to its flared tweeter with a constant-directivity horn. This design also spreads the sound widely and evenly across the room and helps deliver a flat frequency response.
Class D amplification with 96 kHz DSP
The Pioneer VM-70 has a Class D amplifier with 96 kHz DSP that reproduces sound with wide bandwidth, low distortion and high energy. The rigid 4 mm aluminium front baffle suppresses resonance and vibration. As a result, you get sound that is truly faithful to the original source.
The Class D amplifier delivers 70W to the woofer and 30W to the tweeter, for a total of 100W on the Pioneer VM-70, with a frequency response of 37 Hz - 36 kHz for true-to-life sound. The speaker suits any task, from DJing to music production, and can be adjusted to suit different listening rooms.
Flat frequency response
A common weakness of active studio monitors is sound colouration, which takes away the natural sound of the music. The VM-70 solves this completely: you can monitor with flat voicing and hear the track exactly as it is, for the most accurate listening experience.
To help you fine-tune the output and find the perfect sound, DSP settings are built into the rear panel with 2 knobs: low EQ and high EQ. With 4 positions on each knob, you get 16 possible EQ settings, and they are very simple to use. So you can pick the setting that sounds best for DJing or music production in your home studio, depending on the shape, size and construction of the room.
Quick, simple connection
The Pioneer VM-70 connects through 1 XLR input and 1 RCA port on the back of the speaker, so you can hook it up for DJing and music production. Gold-plated connectors keep the signal fast and complete, and stay durable because they resist oxidation.
