Renowned Finnish audio brand Genelec brings you the Genelec 8340A studio monitor, a two-way design with an impressive 300W of power for strong performance. It integrates several proprietary technologies such as Smart Active Monitor (SAM), active crossover, Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) and DCW for excellent sound calibration.

Genelec 8340A studio monitor: design overview

The Genelec 8340A has a light, rigid die-cast aluminium enclosure, treated to provide good EMC shielding and excellent heat dissipation for the power amplifiers. It measures 237 x 365 x 223 mm (W x H x D) and weighs just 8.4 kg, so it is easy to transport and set up in many spaces, even the smallest.

Available in two finishes, dark grey and white, it suits a range of tastes and interior styles.

Genelec 8340A studio monitor: sound quality review

Clear two-way design

The Genelec 8340A delivers crisp, accurate two-way sound with a 16.5 cm woofer and a 1.9 cm tweeter, carefully made from high-grade materials for vivid, impressive playback.

The speaker runs on 300W RMS of Class D amplification, delivering performance well beyond what its compact size suggests.

Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE™)

To improve the flatness of the frequency response and power response of a free-standing speaker system, Genelec designed a highly innovative enclosure with rounded edges and gently curved front and sides. MDE technology helps the 8340A achieve an exceptionally flat frequency response, and the minimum-diffraction enclosure delivers excellent sound-stage imaging.

Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™)

DCW technology shapes the emitted wavefront in a controlled way, giving an even, smooth directivity (dispersion) pattern and limiting the radiation angle to reduce stray radiation. The result is fewer early reflections and a wide, controlled listening area for accurate sound reproduction both on and off axis.

Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM™) software

Part of the SAM two-way studio monitor range, the Genelec 8340A works with Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM™) software, which lets you fine-tune every monitor setting, while AutoCal™ compensates for adverse room effects to calibrate your setup perfectly for your listening environment, whether you work in simple stereo or immersive 3D audio.

The 8340A integrates tightly with GLM software and is configured and calibrated to your listening environment to compensate for adverse effects, creating a truly optimised monitoring solution for challenging spaces. Take the accuracy of your monitoring to a new level with the precision and adaptability of a Smart Active Monitor.
