Design overview of the Genelec 8050B studio monitor
The Genelec 8050B is designed to be a studio monitor that not only looks striking but also meets international acoustic standards. Its optimised die-cast aluminium diffraction enclosure delivers focused near-field sound, with a durable and very attractive semi-matte finish.
A sturdy metal grille and Genelec's unique Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) technology help deliver exceptional multi-dimensional imaging. At 286 x 433 x 278 mm (WxHxD; 452 mm high on its Iso-Pod stand) and a compact 14.4 kg, it is easy to set up on a shelf or desk without taking up too much space.

Faithful two-way sound
The Genelec 8050B is a powerful full-field monitor with two drivers for two-way sound: an exceptionally low-distortion 20.5cm woofer and a 2.54cm metal dome tweeter that brings excellent clarity and airy, open highs.
The low distortion of Genelec monitors always makes a difference thanks to their sophisticated control design. The crossover operates at low levels, with flexible controls to match different acoustic environments.
Powerful amplification
Separate 150W bass and 120W treble amplifiers ensure a stable power supply for a total of 270W RMS, using high-efficiency class AB circuitry for powerful operation. With so much power in a compact unit, the Genelec 8050B is ideal for larger rooms and longer listening distances.
The 8050B offers a class-leading balance of outstanding SPL output, extended dynamic range and extremely detailed performance. With excellent directivity and a wide sweet spot, you can move the speakers around and the sound is still reproduced accurately.
Integrated reflex port
The rear reflex port design delivers high acoustic output with low distortion. To extend the power handling and SPL capability of the 8050B, Genelec designed a cleverly flow-optimised reflex port with a long, curved tube that maximises airflow, letting the speaker reproduce deep bass without compression. The end of the tube is widely flared, which minimises port noise and gives excellent bass reproduction.
Room response controls
With room response controls on the rear panel, the Genelec 8050B offers neutral performance and adapts to the room to ensure a flat playback response, so you can truly analyse the spectral balance of a recording and create mixes you can trust.
Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW)
Like all Genelec 8000 series studio monitors, the 8050B features the revolutionary Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW), further enhanced to give extremely precise control over directivity. With its smooth, specially shaped surface integrated into the enclosure, the DCW gives the speaker a remarkably flat, wide frequency response both on and off axis. This gives the 8050B superior imaging and less listening fatigue.
ISS power management
The Genelec 8050B is protected by Genelec's ISS power management system, so it draws less than 0.5 W in standby. ISS continuously monitors the input signal and automatically switches the 8050B into a low-power sleep mode when it detects that the speaker is not in use.
Easy system integration
The monitor can be used in 2.1 or surround setups and integrates easily with a subwoofer. In addition, built-in rear mounting points for wall and floor stands, plus an extra M10 thread for mounting on a cabinet base, make it very flexible.
Like other Genelec models, the 8050B comes with a standard IsoPod (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler), a smart stand that lets the 8050B work upright or on its side. The IsoPod also lets you aim the speaker's acoustic axis at the listener while acoustically and mechanically decoupling the speaker from the surface it rests on.
