Description
The Genelec 8040B studio monitor is the choice of recording professionals worldwide. With impressive performance — 105 dB SPL and bass reaching right down to 41 Hz — this studio monitor delivers accuracy and energy in equal measure. Immerse yourself in the true sound of your mix with the remarkable performance and versatility of the 8040B.
Genelec 8040B studio monitor design overview
The Genelec 8040B impresses with its compact dimensions of 237 x 365 x 223 mm (W x H x D) and a weight of 9.4 kg, making it easy to transport and set up on a desk, TV stand, bookshelf and more without taking up much room.
The 8040B's aluminium enclosure comes in two stylish finishes, dark grey and white, combining transparent sound with a distinctive look. The monitor comes with an Iso-Pod stand that reduces contact with the supporting surface and lets you adjust the monitor's angle to suit your listening position.

Lively two-way design
The Genelec 8040B is a 2-driver, 2-way design with a 16.5 cm woofer for powerful bass and a 1.9 cm metal dome tweeter for airy highs. Its Class AB amplification delivers a strong 180 W RMS, so sound is reproduced with remarkable dynamics and detail.
Pure sound
Keeping the product's acoustic performance intact, the Genelec 8040B can reach an SPL of up to 105 dB and easily extends down to 41 Hz. It is fast and highly accurate, helping you produce professional, high-fidelity mixes.
Power-saving ISS technology
The monitor's Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) circuit automatically switches the 8040B into a power-saving standby mode when the signal light turns green.
Optimal accuracy and power
Genelec equips the 8040B with an active crossover — an electronic crossover that splits the audio signal into separate frequency bands, which can be routed individually to separate power amplifiers and connected to specific transducers optimised for a particular frequency range.
Genelec's own active crossover includes additional signal processing such as driver protection, delay and equalisation. In a typical 2-way system, the active crossover uses two power amplifiers — one for the woofer and one for the tweeter.
Genelec's analogue active crossover filters contain electronics operating at low signal levels, matched to the power amplifier inputs. This contrasts with passive crossovers, which operate at the high signal level of the power amplifier output and must handle high currents and, in some cases, high voltages.
Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™)
The Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™) is a revolutionary approach that Genelec introduced in 1983. Developed and refined over more than 30 years, Genelec's DCW technology significantly improves the performance of direct-radiating multi-way monitors.
The DCW shapes the radiated wavefront in a controlled way, allowing the directivity (dispersion) pattern to be adjusted so that directivity is uniform, and limiting the radiation angle to reduce stray radiation. As a result, both the overall frequency response and the power response are uniform and exceptionally flat. This advanced DCW technology also minimises early reflections and provides a wide, controlled listening area for accurate sound reproduction on and off axis.
Accurate room response compensation
Minimised early reflections and controlled, constant directivity also make the frequency balance of the reverberant field in the room essentially the same as the direct field from the monitor. As a result, the monitoring system's performance depends less on the room's acoustic characteristics. The width and depth of the stereo image are among the most important elements of any listening environment, and both on-axis and off-axis listening matter.
