Description
The DM-40D is Pioneer DJ's compact pair of active desktop monitors. Each two-way bass reflex cabinet carries a 4-inch glass fibre woofer and a 3/4-inch soft-dome tweeter, powered by a Class D amplifier with DSP rated at 19 W per channel. The pair is aimed at home DJs, beginners at a controller and anyone putting together a first production desk.
Highlights
- 4" (102 mm) glass fibre woofer and 3/4" (19 mm) soft-dome tweeter with a convex diffuser
- Class D amplifier with 96 kHz DSP, 19 W / 4 Ω per channel
- SOUND MODE switch: punchy DJ mode or flat PRODUCTION mode
- RCA and 3.5 mm mini-jack inputs on the rear, mixed together
- Front LEVEL knob and 3.5 mm headphone output that mutes the speakers
- Grooved bass reflex ducts for tight bass, even close to a wall
On a DJ desk the speakers sit either side of the controller: its master output goes into the RCA input, and a laptop or phone can use the mini-jack input at the same time, because both inputs are mixed. DJ mode gives the punchier sound that suits practice, while PRODUCTION mode switches to a flat response for arranging and mixing tracks. Pioneer DJ recommends ear height, with each speaker turned about 30 degrees towards the listener.
Plugging headphones into the front socket silences the speakers, which helps with late-night practice. The MDF cabinets have a vinyl finish, and the system goes into standby after roughly 20 minutes without sound, waking again when a signal arrives. The DM-40D comes in black and in white (DM-40D-W); the Bluetooth model is the DM-40D-BT.
