Description
The Yamaha MG12X is a 12-channel analog mixer from the MG 'X' line: D-PRE preamps, 1-knob compressors and SPX effects, without the USB interface of the XU models. Yamaha points the X models at live sessions as well as installations such as conference rooms, banquet halls and weddings, and two group buses make it more flexible than a basic stereo mixer.
Highlights
- Up to 6 mic or 12 line inputs: four mono channels plus four stereo channels, two of which also take a microphone on XLR.
- Two group buses and two AUX sends (including the FX send) alongside the stereo bus.
- D-PRE class-A preamps, 1-knob compressors, and a 26 dB PAD with an 80 Hz high-pass filter on the mono channels.
- 3-band EQ (±15 dB) and SPX effects with 24 programs, a parameter knob and a footswitch jack for the FX return.
- Internal 100–240 V power supply, metal chassis and 2 × 12-segment level meters.
In your setup
The balanced XLR Stereo Out drives the main powered speakers or amplifier, the AUX sends can feed stage monitors, and the group outputs can serve a second zone or a recorder. A DJ controller, laptop or media player plugs into a stereo line channel; channels 9/10 also take RCA. Yamaha sells the RK-MG12 kit for rack mounting. If you need to record to a computer over USB, look at the MG12XU, which has the same channel count plus a 2-in/2-out USB interface.
