Description

The DXR8mkII is the smallest and lightest speaker in Yamaha's DXR mkII series. It has the same 1100 W Class-D amplifier as its larger siblings (950 W for the low end, 150 W for the high end; 700 W continuous), driving an 8-inch woofer and a 1.75-inch neodymium compression driver. Maximum output is 130 dB SPL at 1 m, with a frequency range of 57 Hz to 20 kHz and 90 x 60 degree coverage.

Yamaha developed the mkII series with input from the touring loudspeaker specialists at NEXO. The 48-bit DSP runs FIR-X tuning, a linear-phase crossover, and D-CONTOUR, a multi-band dynamic processor with FOH/MAIN and MONITOR settings that keeps the tone even from low to high volume. A switchable high-pass filter (100 or 120 Hz) cleans up the low end when you add a subwoofer; Yamaha suggests the DXS12mkII for a compact, high-output system.

The built-in 3-channel mixer takes a microphone or line source on XLR, a pair of jack inputs and an RCA pair, so a small gig with a vocal mic and a DJ controller needs no external mixer. THRU and LINK OUT connectors send the signal on to more speakers. At 12.8 kg in an ABS cabinet with a 35 mm pole socket (0 or 7 degree tilt) and M8 rigging points, it works as a compact main speaker, a monitor for DJs and performers, or a fill speaker in larger rooms.
