Description
The AKG Ara (model C22-USB) is a USB condenser microphone for people who record or stream from a desk: podcasters, streamers, gamers, voice-over artists and anyone on video calls. One USB-C cable to the computer is all it takes – no separate audio interface or mixer – which makes it an easy first studio mic.
Highlights
- Two condenser capsules and two pickup modes: Front (cardioid) for a single voice, Front & Back (omni) for a group around the mic.
- Records at up to 24-bit/96 kHz. Some early boxes were printed with 192 kHz by mistake; Harman confirms 96 kHz is correct.
- 120 dB maximum SPL leaves headroom for loud sources such as drums, horns or guitar amps.
- 3.5 mm headphone jack for latency-free monitoring, with headphone volume, mic gain and a mute button with LED.
- Class-compliant USB: plug into a Mac or Windows PC without installing drivers.
- Includes a registration card for Ableton Live 11 Lite.
In your setup
Ara connects over USB-C to Mac and Windows computers and to game consoles. Android devices need an OTG adapter cable; iPhone and iPad need Apple's Camera Adapter and a powered USB hub, none of which are included. On the desk it sits in its own yoke and base, and it also fits a boom arm or mic stand, with an adapter in the box for European stand threads. In a home studio it covers voice-overs for videos, podcasts or mix intros without extra hardware.
