Learn to DJ in Saigon: Lessons, Prices, Practice Rooms and Gear

06/10/2026·8 min read·Muse Inc

Updated 2026. Just moved to Ho Chi Minh City, working remotely for a few months, or staying long enough to pick up a new skill? You can learn to DJ in Saigon without owning a single piece of gear. This guide covers what matters when you're not Vietnamese: whether lessons are in English, what courses cost, where to practise on club equipment, and whether to buy or rent. It comes from Muse Inc, a DJ school in central Saigon that has been teaching since 2017. So yes, we're writing about our own school, and we'll stick to facts you can check on our site.

Can you learn to DJ in English in Saigon?

Yes. At Muse Inc, lessons run in Vietnamese or, for international students, in English. The lesson slides in your student account come in both languages, so you can go over the material in English between sessions. Just mention when you book that you'd like your lessons in English.

You learn from working DJs. The team includes the school's founder, DJ Phatbeatz, known for turntablism and scratch, and DJ Jake Ryan, a DJ/producer with more than ten years of experience and the Spin Award 2025 champion. On Google the school currently shows 4.9/5 from 99 reviews, including reviews in English from people who came from abroad to train or simply to practise.

Lessons run on the gear you'll meet in clubs: Pioneer DJ CDJ-3000 players, DJM-A9 and DJM-900NXS2 mixers, XDJ all-in-one systems, controllers and turntables, with Rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro and Traktor as software.

Course options and prices

Most courses come in three formats:

  • Private (1-on-1): your pace, booked any time between 9:00 and 21:00.
  • Group: a fixed timetable with a small group, mixing back to back.
  • Online: live with a teacher; you need a laptop and a controller at home.

Prices below are the school's current list prices in Vietnamese dong. Dollar figures are approximate, at about 26,000 VND to the dollar. 0% instalments are available on courses; ask us about the terms.

  • Level 1 — Basic DJ is where complete beginners start: 9 sessions over about three weeks (eight lessons with a teacher plus a test) and 8 practice hours on top. You learn on a controller: hardware and software, beatmatching, EQ, effects and your first 15-minute set. 9,500,000 VND private or in a group of up to 4 (approximately $365); 8,000,000 VND online (approximately $310).
  • Comprehensive DJ Course is the full path from zero to performing: about three months, 33 lessons of 60 minutes and 32 practice hours in the studio, on CDJs, controllers and turntables. It ends with a graduation set at Markshow and a certificate that can be checked by QR code. 38,000,000 VND private (approximately $1,460), 30,000,000 VND in a group of 4–6 (approximately $1,150), 24,000,000 VND online (approximately $920).
  • DJ After Hours is built for people with day jobs: evening classes, 5 sessions (4 lessons and a test) focused on core skills. 5,000,000 VND private (approximately $190), 4,000,000 VND in a group or online (approximately $155).
  • Next steps once you have the basics: the Intermediate and Level 2 — Advanced courses (15,000,000–17,000,000 VND), and genre courses in techno, EDM and urban/hip-hop (24,000,000–29,000,000 VND depending on the course and format).
  • Kids DJ Course for ages 6–14: eight 60-minute lessons on a controller, practice sessions and a final test; 7,000,000 VND private (approximately $270).

Every option, online and group prices included, is on the DJ course price list.

Only in town for a month or so? Level 1 runs at three lessons a week, so it fits into a stay of about a month. Tell us your dates when you book and ask which schedule works.

Practising on club gear

Lessons are only half of it; you get better by playing. The school's DJ practice rooms are open 9:00–21:00 every day, and you don't need to be a student to book. Pick a room and a free time online, and the school confirms by phone or Zalo. Current hourly prices:

  • XDJ-RX3 rooms and the XDJ-XZ room: 250,000 VND an hour (approximately $10) for up to 2 people, plus 50,000 VND an hour for each extra person.
  • CDJ-2000NXS2 + DJM-900NXS2: 350,000 VND an hour (approximately $13.50).
  • Private studio with CDJ-3000 + DJM-A9 and Yamaha HS8 monitors, for up to 4 people: 450,000 VND an hour (approximately $17).
  • Vinyl rooms: Pioneer PLX-1000 turntables with a DJM-S7, Technics MK5G with a Traktor Z2, Denon VL12 with an X1800, or Pioneer CRSS12 with an S11 mixer, at 350,000–450,000 VND an hour.

In practice that's CDJ hire by the hour in Saigon, without having to move any gear. Visiting DJs also book the studio to practise or record a promo mix. Course students get practice hours included (32 in the Comprehensive course, 8 in Level 1), and members get discounts on booth time; ask for current rates.

The house rules are simple: bring your own headphones (6.3 mm or 3.5 mm plug), bring your music on USB exported from rekordbox (or a laptop for controller sessions), and be on time, because sessions start and end on the hour.

Buy, rent or use the school's gear

For lessons at the school you don't need anything: you learn on the school's CDJs, controllers and turntables. You only need your own laptop and controller if you choose online lessons.

If you need gear outside the school, say for a house party, a gig or practice at home, look at DJ equipment rental. The school rents out DJ gear for practice and events, and its festival clients include Ravolution, Creamfields Vietnam, Heineken Refresh Your Music and Tiger Crystal Rave. Ask for a quote with your dates.

Staying longer and want your own setup? The school's online store sells controllers, all-in-one systems, CDJs, headphones and studio monitors, priced in VND. For reference, the Pioneer DJ DDJ FLX4, a two-channel controller for beginners, is currently 11,650,000 VND (approximately $450), and the XDJ-RX3 all-in-one is 61,506,000 VND (approximately $2,370). Our honest advice: take a few lessons first, then buy. By then you'll know whether you prefer a controller or club-style players, and which software suits you.

Where the scene is

Every Muse Inc student finishes with a graduation set at Markshow, the school's graduation show, playing in front of a real crowd and a panel of judges. The video of that set becomes your first portfolio, and the school connects graduates with partner bars and clubs.

The school also runs Muse Allstar club nights, Asian Jam and workshops, and has its own event space, IKONIK, for showcases, workshops and private events, with room for 70+ guests. Dates are announced on the events page. After graduating you can keep practising in the studio, join Muse Inc events and get booked through the school's DJ booking service.

Getting there

Muse Inc is at 409 Hai Bà Trưng, Xuân Hòa ward, in central Ho Chi Minh City, in the area long known as District 3. The entrance is at the back of the building: the Vietnamese address reads "(Mặt sau) 409 Hai Bà Trưng, Phường Xuân Hòa", and "mặt sau" means "rear side", so show that line to your driver. Search for Muse Inc on Google Maps to find the pin.

FAQ

Do I need any DJ experience?

No. Level 1 is built for people who have never touched a deck: you start with the hardware, the software and your first mix. If you already mix at home, the free trial lesson helps the teacher confirm the right level for you.

Do I need my own controller?

Not for lessons at the school: you play on the school's equipment, and courses include practice hours in the studio. For online lessons you need a laptop and a controller.

Can I take a single lesson or a trial?

The first lesson, "Introduction to DJ", is a free trial: pick a free time online and a teacher meets you at the school for an hour. Beyond that, lessons are sold as courses, and the shortest is DJ After Hours (5 sessions). If you just want time on the decks, book a practice room by the hour.

How long are lessons?

In the Comprehensive DJ Course each lesson is 60 minutes with a teacher, with practice hours in the studio on top, and the whole course takes about three months. Kids' lessons are 60 minutes too. Level 1 takes about three weeks at three lessons a week; ask us about session length when you book.

Can my kids learn too?

Yes. The Kids DJ Course is for ages 6–14: 60-minute lessons on a controller, with the material adjusted to the child's age. Private lessons cost 7,000,000 VND for the course (approximately $270).

Ready to try? Book your free trial lesson, or message us on Zalo at 0902 957 911 and tell us how long you'll be in Saigon. We'll suggest a course and a schedule that fit.
