How DJs Can Stay Positive During the Pandemic: Lessons from China

All activity in the global entertainment industry has been forced to stop as the pandemic keeps escalating. Many festivals have recently been postponed to 2021 — Ultra, Tomorrowland, Parookaville and more — and big nightclubs are closed until further notice. This has hit DJs around the world hard, and their mental health has taken a serious dive.
But as the old saying goes, “After the rain comes the sunshine…” — and that should keep you positive while everything is on hold. Here are some essential tips drawn from valuable lessons learned in China:
1. Keep your DJ skills sharp
Use your “social distancing” time to work on the DJ skills you haven't mastered yet. Focus on skills such as scratching, beatmatching by ear and, most importantly, EQ mixing.
Once the lockdown is lifted and you go back to your usual work, you'll have even more experience behind the decks.
2. The perfect time to make new music
Everyone is both a DJ and a producer these days, so now is the time to make new music in different ways: create your own original tracks (Original Mix), make mashups or edit tracks in your own style. If you're a producer who still hasn't got your head around your DAW, dig into the useful producer tips on YouTube or Google.

3. Keep livestreaming regularly to engage your fans and win new ones
Staying home just watching films or gaming is far too ordinary! Recently there have been lots of DJ livestreams around the world, letting fans party full throttle while bars, clubs and festivals are on hold. Take this chance to connect with your fans by livestreaming from home on your social media channels. It will really help your career once the pandemic is over.

4. Set goals for your future self
Last but most important: set yourself meaningful goals in life, so that when social distancing is over you'll have the drive to rise in your career. Keep pushing, and you'll get the results you deserve!
