JBL IRX One design review

The JBL IRX One is light and versatile, so it is easy to take anywhere and suits many outdoor activities such as performances, conferences and picnics. A highlight is the handle design, which makes transport simpler than ever. Its dimensions (W x H x D) are 400 x 597 x 267 mm (packed down) and it weighs a compact 15.5 kg, so it fits into many different spaces without taking up much room.

The JBL IRX One consists of two main parts: the speaker column and the base. The enclosure is made of high-grade materials for durability and sturdiness, reducing damage from knocks and from harsh environments. Its all-in-one design also makes setup, teardown and transport easier.

The spacer pole and the HF column are shaped to fit into the back of the JBL IRX One base unit, so you can carry the whole system in one hand and set it up or take it down quickly in mobile applications.

The drivers of the JBL column speaker IRX One are protected by a stainless steel grille for durability and strength, topped with a prominent JBL logo. The rear of the cabinet is hollowed out and comes with a convenient handle, making moving it simpler and easier than ever.

JBL IRX One sound quality review

The JBL IRX One has an 8 inch subwoofer with excellent low-frequency response that reaches down to 40 Hz for highly accurate sound, and its bass-reflex design produces strong, impressive bass.

The height extension and the tweeter column connect on top of the bass base for accurate, loud and clear, coherent sound.

Seamless coverage with six tweeters

The JBL IRX One column speaker also has a spacer and a high-frequency section mounted on top of the speaker, reproducing JBL's legendary true-to-life, powerful sound. The column holds six tweeters optimised in a "C Shape" arrangement inspired by the line arrays used at concerts, giving a wide 160 x 80 degree coverage pattern that spreads sound evenly and consistently at every angle. Sound is controlled from front to back, so listeners anywhere in the room hear clear sound, with an excellent wide sweet spot.

High power

In addition, the 1300 W Class-D amplifier delivers a maximum sound pressure level of up to 118 dB, making every sound clearer and more powerful than ever. The JBL IRX One not only meets every sound need but also offers a great, memorable listening experience.

The amplification keeps the sound loud and clear at any volume level. Power factor correction provides stable, clean power across different voltages, and high-quality, highly linear inductors improve efficiency and minimise distortion.

Convenient ergonomic design

The compact IRX ONE can be carried in one hand and assembled in seconds. The handle is ergonomically optimised to reduce strain on the wrist. The column spacer and array cabinet fit neatly into the back of the base unit for quick setup and teardown.

The latest Bluetooth technology

The latest Bluetooth 5.0 chipset is built into the JBL IRX One after several stages of rigorous testing. A Pass-Thru port also lets you expand the system and provides volume and delay adjustment for the speaker set.

3-channel mixer for flexible sound control

The JBL IRX ONE portable karaoke speaker adds an intuitive control dial panel with EQ, automatic feedback suppression (AFS) and a built-in voice-enhancing preset for great performance. The ducking feature automatically lowers the background music when a teacher, presenter or speaker talks.

The IRX ONE's 3-channel mixer supports the most common connections, including ¼" and XLR inputs with 48 V phantom power and a balanced ¼" output. It includes dbx automatic feedback suppression (AFS), phantom power, system tuning presets and 5 EQ presets.

Wired connectivity includes 2 XLR & 6.3 mm combo jack inputs and 1 6.3 mm Hi-Z/Line jack input, with Bass, Treble, Gain and Level knobs to fine-tune the sound to your taste.

JBL has improved the bass and treble controls for a fuller listening experience. The Soundcraft Easy Ducking function automatically turns the music down when it detects a voice — ideal for seminars and presentations.

3-layer DSP experience

The multi-layer DSP gives flexible control at three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. At the basic level you can easily choose and apply common factory presets.

You can use the default settings as a starting point and adjust them to your specific needs by accessing the technical parameters. Settings can be fully customised and saved as your own presets to suit your personal needs.

Works with the JBL control app

The speaker is highly rated for its easy, comprehensive control through the JBL app. This gives you convenience and flexibility, letting you adjust the sound parameters quickly and easily to your liking, for a personal listening experience and the best sound quality for a wide range of needs.

Built to last

The JBL IRX ONE has been tested for durability and long-term operation through 100 hours of JBL's rigorous standards, whatever the weather and outdoor conditions. The sturdy enclosure not only looks good but also keeps the components inside in the best condition.
