Description

Genelec 8020D studio monitor design

The Genelec 8020D studio monitor stands out with its classic design. Its compact dimensions of 148 x 242 x 142 mm (W x H x D) and light weight of just 3.2kg make it a good fit for all kinds of small and medium-sized spaces.

The enclosure is made of special aluminium, and the metal grille not only protects the components and drivers inside but is also acoustically optimised, so it looks good and helps the sound too. The monitor comes with four Iso-Pod rubber feet that act as a flexible stand, letting you set the speaker to the right angle.

Genelec 8020D studio monitor sound and performance

Powerful 100W

The Genelec 8020D also has class D amplification, with a 50W high-frequency amplifier for the ¾" tweeter and a 50W low-frequency amplifier for the 4" woofer, for a total of 100W that suits many small and medium-sized rooms.

Bass response is extended by a rear reflex port, and a Genelec subwoofer, available separately, can be added to monitor a wider frequency range. The 8020D delivers SPL of up to 100dB with lower power consumption, and a frequency response of 62 Hz - 20 kHz.

Accurate sound

The clear two-driver, two-way design of this studio monitor combines a 10.5cm bass driver with a 1.9cm metal-dome tweeter for accurate, lively output. With a wide, uncoloured sweet spot, you can always make precise and reliable mixing decisions.

Proprietary DCW waveguide

DCW (Directivity Control Waveguide) technology plays an essential role in achieving the best possible sound by controlling how sound radiates from the front of the speaker. In practice, the 'off-axis' sound – what you hear outside the usual listening 'sweet spot' – improves as the size of the DCW increases. As a result, the larger the DCW, the better the quality of the reflected sound.

MDE minimum diffraction enclosure

The Genelec 8020D studio monitor is built on a die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE), which supports the DCW waveguide and delivers an exceptionally refined sound. The acoustically optimised metal grille and rounded shape keep distortion low, for high fidelity, low latency and accurate frequency reproduction.

Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS™)

Genelec's Intelligent Signal Sensing technology was developed to meet both the European Union's ErP Directive and sustainability standards.

When enabled, ISS monitors the speaker's input signal and detects whether the speaker is in use. If the ISS circuit finds no audio at the input for a period of time, it automatically puts the speaker into a low-power sleep mode in which it draws less than 0.5 watts. As soon as an input signal is detected, the speaker switches back on instantly.

The 'ISS Disable' switch is on the back of the 8020D next to the other response controls. When the speaker's mains power switch is first set to 'ON', the speaker's automatic ISS™ start-up function (entering/leaving low-power sleep) is active.

Iso-Pod stand as standard

The Genelec 8020D studio monitor can be installed flexibly in many positions thanks to built-in rear mounting points for wall and floor stands, plus a 3/8" thread for stand mounting.

Every Genelec 8020D comes with an Iso-Pod as standard. The Iso-Pod is a smart stand that lets the monitor work in vertical or horizontal position and tilt +/-15 degrees so its acoustic axis points at the listener, for accurate perception of tonal balance.
