Description
The Genelec 8030C studio monitor is a compact monitor similar to the earlier 8010A and 8020D models, but with higher SPL and more bass extension. It keeps the Iso-Pod stand and the Directivity Control Waveguide, which enhance the sound field, and delivers astonishingly accurate sound for studios, workstations and surround setups…
Genelec 8030C Studio Monitor Design Overview
The Genelec 8030C is built around Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) technology, with rounded edges and a gently curved front and sides. Besides giving the monitor a soft, elegant look, this lets the 8030C achieve a very smooth frequency response and outstanding imaging, with cabinet edge diffraction kept to a minimum.
This rather distinctive, very smooth shape — 299 x 189 x 178 mm (W x H x D) and a light 5kg — has been optimised for remarkable on- and off-axis frequency response. The optimised die-cast aluminium construction, with an extremely durable semi-matte finish, and the acoustically optimised metal grille contribute to the 8030C's excellent sound quality.
Genelec 8030C Studio Monitor Sound Quality Review
Faithful sound reproduction
Some tracks can sound muddled and inaccurate on playback. With the 8030C, Genelec has upgraded its popular nearfield monitor with more power, higher SPL capability and lower power consumption. Sound is reproduced with high fidelity, making it easy to mix for professional audio production, with focus and precision and exceptional localisation and stereo imaging.
The bass driver is small but still offers considerable depth for its size, making it easy to catch every nuance of a mix. It gives accurate imaging and astonishing detail, yet can play louder and lower than its smaller siblings — making it the perfect choice for slightly larger spaces.
Clear 2-way design
The Genelec 8030C is highly regarded for its absolutely accurate reproduction of the original sound and for bass that is impressively deep for such a modest cabinet. Its 2-way system keeps the frequency ranges cleanly separated yet perfectly integrated, with a 13cm bass driver paired with a 1.9cm metal dome high-frequency driver for punchy bass and airy highs.
100W of power
Efficient Class D amplifiers deliver a well-judged 100W RMS, suited to professional recording studios and music production rooms, or simply a home audio system, with very crisp output.
Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS™)
Since its introduction in early 2013, Genelec's ISS intelligent signal sensing has featured in the brand's speakers: the ISS™ circuit monitors the speaker's input signal and detects whether the speaker is in use, cutting standby power consumption and saving as much energy as possible on the Genelec 8030C.
If the ISS circuit detects no audio at the input for a period of time, it puts the speaker into a low-power sleep state in which it draws less than 0.5 watts. As soon as an input signal is detected, the speaker switches itself back on instantly.
If you do not want to use this function, you can disable ISS™ by setting the 'ISS Disable' switch on the back to 'ON'. The monitor is then switched on and off only with the mains power switch.
Accurate room response compensation
The Genelec 8030C's signature rounded enclosure gives stable reference performance both on and off axis, and the room compensation switches on the rear panel let you optimise the 8030C for the acoustics of your own room, whether it is small or medium-sized.
ISO-POD stand
The Genelec 8030C's integrated ISO-POD stand not only protects the sound quality and the life of the speaker but also lets you tilt the speaker up or down for the best listening experience
Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW™) technology
Like every other model in the Genelec 8000 Series, the 8030C features the advanced Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW), enhanced and refined with each series, to give a wide, consistent listening window and minimise harmful early room reflections and the other colorations associated with conventional designs.
Optimised reflex port
To extend the 8030C's low-frequency response and SPL capability, Genelec designed a flow-optimised reflex port: a tube of carefully judged length and curvature that maximises airflow, so the 8030C can reproduce deep bass without compression. The tube ends in a wide flare that minimises port noise and gives powerful bass.
