Professional DJ Course Graduate: Meet DJ Ivey
DJ Ivey
DJ Ivey's full name is Nguyễn Văn Tư. He grew up in Uông Bí, a city in Quảng Ninh province not far from Ha Long. Music takes up most of Ivey's life. His favourite genres are disco funk and tech house (and, going deeper, techno) – or simply house music, as most people call it. It's a genre with a fairly niche audience in Vietnam, though.
Why he decided to learn to DJ
As he told Muse Inc: “When I was at school, I was heavily influenced by Boney M and disco funk mixtapes, because my dad used to put them on YouTube and listen every morning. At the end of 2019, I went to a festival organised by Tiger Beer in Ha Long, and when the trap and dubstep remixes kicked in, I knew I wanted to be a DJ – not just a club DJ, but someone who could stand behind the CDJs and get the party going at big festivals.
After a period of studying and growing in South Korea, I decided to come back to Vietnam. I was looking around on social media like Facebook when I unexpectedly came across Muse Inc – and that's how my DJ journey began.”
His thoughts on Muse Inc
DJ Ivey says: “Muse Inc didn't just teach me about music and DJing – I also learned about life, and how to find my direction and grow in this field. I also got to try modern DJ equipment in the practice room and share music with other interesting people. Even though I've graduated, I especially want to thank my teachers and the older students who taught me, guided me and were so eager to help me throughout my studies.”
