TYPHON-AX15: the UNBEATABLE "beast" speaker

Wharfedale Pro is a famous British loudspeaker brand, known as “Britain's Most Famous Loudspeakers”. The brand recently launched a speaker that has drawn a lot of attention, nicknamed the “Beast”: the Typhon-AX15. With serious power, an all-new built-in amplifier and aptX Bluetooth connectivity, the Typhon-AX15 is a versatile and “unbeatable” performance speaker in its class.

Cabinet designed to minimise noise, ready for professional setups

For the Typhon AX-12BT cabinet, Wharfedale uses one-piece moulded polypropylene, engineered to minimise resonance and noise. At the front, the Typhon AX-12BT has a protective steel grille with the familiar look of other Wharfedale Pro speakers. Handles on the top and bottom of the cabinet make it easy to carry and better balanced. Of course, the Wharfedale Pro Typhon AX-15 also comes with a pole-mount socket and threaded inserts for fixed flying on stage rigs to pro audio standards.

Built-in DSP for many applications

The Typhon-AX15 has a built-in DSP processor with 4 voicing modes, so you can quickly tailor the sound of the pair to each real-world use. Flat mode, with no processing, delivers maximum fidelity to the source for a natural soundstage. In Monitor mode, the Typhon-AX15 becomes a pair of studio monitors by increasing accuracy across the bands, suitable for studio use. There is also Bass mode, which boosts the low end for energetic music or large spaces, and Punch mode, which is similar to Monitor but brings out maximum impact, especially tightness. The Wharfedale Typhon-AX15 has a full set of professional balanced inputs and outputs.

Wharfedale Pro Typhon-AX15: the unbeatable “beast” speaker with a 770W bi-amp

In Greek mythology, Typhon is an unbeatable monster who spreads terror by creating and controlling giant whirlwinds in battle. With its serious power, flexible control and many functions, the Typhon-AX15 has earned the name “beast” among personal performance speakers.

The Wharfedale Typhon Series has two models, the Typhon-AX15 and the Typhon-AX15-BT, with the same driver and amplifier configuration. The power, precise sound handling, high dynamics and low noise of the Typhon-AX15 come from its powerful 770W bi-amp design. It uses 2 independent power modules (instead of a single power board driving all the drivers): a 120W amplifier for the compression tweeter driver with a large 1.75in voice coil for fast heat dissipation, and a 600W amplifier to drive the 12in woofer.

Both amplifier modules are highly efficient, so they only need natural convection cooling, with no fan. This keeps the speaker stable and quieter, especially in a studio. The Wharfedale Typhon-AX15-BT also adds aptX Bluetooth for simple wireless connection from mobile devices, with CD Redbook sound quality up to 16bit/44.1kHz.
