Course outline
Lesson 1: Introduction to DJing
Students get an overview of the DJ world and its environment, the most common types of DJ and where each fits in, and what it means to be a DJ.
Lesson 2: DJ software
Students learn about popular DJ software, how to use it, and how to download and organise music in it.
Lesson 3: DJ hardware
Students learn about DJ equipment from entry-level to professional, and how to control it and load tracks to play.
Lesson 4: Beatmatching
Students learn beatmatching, the most basic and important DJ skill, and get to the point of beatmatching confidently by ear with headphones as quickly as possible.
Lesson 5: Basic mixing skills
Students learn basic mixing skills, using the channel faders and EQ to mix from one track to the next.
Lesson 6: Basic music structure
Students learn the basic structure of today's music genres so they can mix in time with the phrases.
Lesson 7: Developing your mixing skills
Students build on their basic mixing skills, using the structure of each track to make their transitions as logical and smooth as possible, and learn to mix faster.
Lesson 8: Filters & FX
Students learn to use the Color FX and basic filter controls on DJ equipment and apply them to make their sets richer.
Lesson 9: Recording a set
With help from the instructor, students put together a track list and record a complete DJ set.
