The beginner DJ course is right for you if you are completely new to DJing or simply want to explore it as a passion of your own. It covers the basics, such as mixing from one track to the next, and gives newcomers a clearer picture of what a DJ actually does. Once you finish, you can move on to advanced, professional training – or stop there and simply DJ for your own enjoyment.

Curriculum

Level 1: Beginner

Lesson 1: Introduction to the world of DJing

You will learn about Vinyl Mode on DJ equipment and how to use it to create extra effects (e.g. backspin, slip…), making your sets more creative.

You will get a complete, detailed introduction to the world of DJing and get familiar with DJ equipment, software and the skills taught on this course.

Lesson 2: Types of DJ equipment

You will get hands-on with DJ equipment ranging from entry-level gear to professional, club-standard setups.

Lesson 3: DJ software

You will get to know popular DJ software such as Serato DJ Pro, rekordbox and Engine Prime…, learning to use it confidently and understand all of its features and functions.

Lesson 4: Beatmatching

You will learn the most important and most fundamental DJ skill: setting cue points and beatmatching by ear, with practice time so you can really master it.

Lesson 5: Phrasing – song structure

In this lesson you will learn the basics of phrasing and song structure, so you understand them well and can apply them to your mixing.

Lesson 6: Music genres

You will study and analyse the most popular genres on the market in depth (e.g. EDM, urban, pop…).

Lesson 7: Listening to, finding and downloading music

You will learn how to find, listen to and download the tracks you like (free and paid), organise your playlists logically and check the quality of your music files.

Lesson 8: Seamless mixing

You will learn to mix using the channel faders and adjusting the EQ bands.

Lesson 9: Filters & FX

You will learn about the Filter and Color FX knobs on the DJM-900NXS2, and how to use them in your sets for smoother transitions, with hands-on support from your instructor.
