Is learning to DJ expensive?

If you love EDM and have a passion for DJing — especially if you dream of becoming a professional DJ — what you need right now is a DJ course that brings you closer to that dream. In this article, Muse Inc helps you find the DJ course that suits you best, plus a few tips to help you learn faster.

1/ An introduction to the DJ courses at MUSE Academy

MUSE Academy was founded in 2017 by DJ Phatbeatz, a man with a deep passion for DJing. He has more than 10 years in the business and has played big events in Vietnam and abroad, as well as well-known bars and clubs. He set up MUSE Academy to follow that passion and to pass his knowledge and energy on to young people who share his love of DJing — helping them turn what they love into a real income.

At MUSE Academy, students learn from long-time DJs with years of experience in the industry — established names who have performed at events, bars and clubs. MUSE instructors give you the big picture as well as the details, from the basics to advanced skills, so that when you finish the DJ course you clearly understand what the job demands and what a DJ actually does. All of this knowledge is invaluable on your way to becoming a professional DJ.

Learning the DJ trade

The school itself is another highlight of MUSE. The classrooms are designed and decorated in a modern, lively Western style, with up-to-date, international-standard equipment from HARMAN International — ideal for a DJ class of 4 to 5 students to learn and practise.

What's more, MUSE students get the chance to intern at well-known bars and clubs. MUSE does this to help students build connections, so they have a good place to work after the course — and from there, the chance to perform at major music festivals and popular game shows.

2/ Basic steps for beginner DJs

2.1 Learn the fundamentals of DJing

This is the first thing to do when you want to become a DJ: research it and learn about it properly. Only with a solid foundation can you go further and become a professional DJ, so find the best place you can to learn the craft.

At this stage, you'll also find out whether this work suits you, whether you enjoy it, and what it can bring you.

2.2 Train your musical ear

A feel for music is essential for a DJ, but not everyone is born with it. That's why training it is a must — it's how you give your listeners mixes that catch the ear.

2.3 Invest in the equipment you need

For newcomers on a tight budget, this is a fairly big expense. Still, whether you're a professional or just starting out, you should have your own set of gear to practise on and get comfortable with.

You don't need very expensive equipment. Choose something that fits your budget and your needs — there are plenty of DJ devices on the market today designed for basic mixing.

Always stay on top of trends. Playing the tracks that are popular right now will make you a more professional DJ.

2.5 Never stop practising

Once you have the knowledge, the right equipment and the skills, what's left is practice. Even established DJs never stop practising, because effort and perseverance always pay off. Practice can take someone who knows nothing and make them good.
