University of Colorado Denver adds electronic music production to its curriculum

To help develop a new generation of properly trained artists, the University of Colorado Denver (USA) has added electronic music production to its curriculum.

CU Denver College of Arts & Media (CAM) is a college in Denver, Colorado, USA, specialising in the arts, music, film and television, with the aim of nurturing and developing the talent of students who want to pursue a career in the arts. Top CAM graduates have the chance to work at some of the world’s leading companies, such as Apple, Pixar, AEG Live, Google, Comcast, Rolling Stone and HBO.

Since fall 2019, the college has added an Electronic Digital Instrument (EDI) course to the list of core instrument options for music students. The course teaches how to produce music on all kinds of electronic devices, including laptops, tablets and smartphones, with professional software such as Ableton Live. The programme aims to create a more diverse generation of artists who can use technology with confidence.

9 students chose to study EDI at CU Denver in its first semester, and that number looks set to grow in the semesters ahead, as the course is right in line with trends in the global music market, especially today’s most popular genres such as EDM, hip-hop and pop.
